Capsule Endoscopy

Capsule endoscopy is a simple test where the patient does not need to be anesthetized.

Technique

• In capsule endoscopy, the patient swallows a small capsule that has an inbuilt camera.

• The camera capture images of the small intestine which are sent to an external data recorder.

• The images are later studied for examining the small intestine.

• The capsule should not be used if there is any suspicion of stricture in the small intestine.

• The capsule is passed out later in the stool. Thus, retrieval of the capsule is not required
