H Pylori Infection

H pylori is a bacteria that causes chronic infection within the stomach. A large portion of Indian population is affected from H pylori infection.

Majority of individuals remains asymptomatic, however other complications include:

• Gastric lymphoma

• Duodenal and gastric ulcer

• Gastric adenocarcinoma

Diagnosis

• UGI is indicated

• Biopsy is done from gastric antrum for Rapid Urease Test

Treatment

• Proton pump inhibitors

• Antibiotics such as amoxicillin, clarithromycin, metronidazole and tinidazole
